Let go - butterflies

Yesterday I opened
A box of butterflies
Out they flew all at once
in a rush of colors

The one in black
with the pretty blue patterns
was the first one to go

The yellow butterfly
danced a dance
twisted spinned and rolled

The reddish black suave one
Flew past my nose with a haughty whoosh

The bright orange butterfly
weaved it's magic
paper crisp and gay

The pink and mauve
patterned beauty
seemed to wink as it flew by

The brown butterfly
shed a tear
and the jet black one
gave me a glare

Now I know that these butterflies
were memories each
of the year that passed me by
After they all flew away ,
I sat to write and now I wonder
What new butterflies will go into
my box
This brand new year?
